BAKE SALE!!! April 4th, 2000
The UB RAMS are holding a bake sale fundraiser in O'Brian outside the
Law Library on Tuesday, April 4th. We are raising money for a more
powerful antenna tuner to handle increased power. This increased power
coupled with a better antenna (made possible by the purchase of this new
tuner) will allow us for further reaching contacts. Please come and buy
some cookies, Rice Krispie Treats, brownies, or other treats. We all have
a sweet tooth.
Teaching session
RAMS will be holding a class on the weekend of the 9th. We don't know
the time yet, but it is expected to be held in the RAMS office. We will
cover Element 2 and Element 3A, which is for the Tech No Code license (no
Morse Code element for this license class). Learn now! April 15th starts
new license structuring and new exams, we don't know the questions or
style. This session will be free, will have adequate breaks, and may have
food. Email Noah to
sign-up. The exam is being held on Tuesday April 12th in the evening at
7PM in Lancaster, NY. It is FREE to first-timers and we will PROVIDE FREE
transportation. This is something that is easy and fun to do. GET A
"ticket" (license) and join the AR community for life!
OPERATION: VDAY2
February 21st-23rd, 2000 we are executing OPERATION: VDAY2. We will
be sending radio telegrams (radiograms) to friends and loved ones all over
the country for FREE. This is a chance for people to learn a little about
amateur radio, traffic handling, and of course send a second valentine to
someone special be it a friend, lover, or family member. It will sent
through traffic nets until it arrives at its final destination via
telephone call.
OPERATION: VDAY2 was a great success. We sent 15 messages to people,
got people on the air, and had a lot of fun

Aside from the fact that being an SA club means we have to give back
to the community, amateur radio operators have been known to help the
community since they got started.
We have had girl scouts come again recently here in 2000 earning
their radio badge, getting on the air, and just having a good 'ol time
with amateur radio.
On 2/21/99 The Girl Scouts will be coming to our club to learn about
amateur radio communication. We plan to have them transmit to both the
Western New York region and the world.
Troop 840 has come and gone. It was a lot of fun and a huge success.
The girls were polite, excited, and some were fearless. The fearless ones
led the others into trying out HF and UHF/VHF. We'll have to consider them
again in the future. We need another activity, any suggestions?

So what is next? We could do more with the girlscouts, but there is
much more available. We could do stuff with the homeless, elderly, help
out with the school, or more. We take suggestions.
