How To Apply
If you are interested in applying for a position in the Family Medicine Residency Program at the State University of New York at Buffalo, please send us the following materials via the ERAS system. We no longer accept paper applications. This applies to both pre and post MATCH applicants:

  1. A completed application form
  2. Your dean's letter
  3. An official medical school transcript
  4. Two additional letters of recommendation
  5. Curriculum Vitae

    If applicable:
  6. USMLE scores
  7. ECFMG certification
  8. Medical school diploma and proof of visa status

We prefer letters from faculty who have worked directly with you and who can comment on your combination of clinical knowledge, judgment, and interpersonal skills-which are central to family practice.

The University at Buffalo Family Medicine Residency Program participates in the National Resident Matching Program for PGY-1 positions. Please be sure to complete all NRMP materials and register by the deadline. (There are separate match numbers for each of the program tracks we administer; you may rank each of our program tracks separately.)

Visa Sponsorship

  • We currently sponsor J-1 visas.
  • We will sponsor H-1 visas only if they are available.

If your application is selected by the Residency Committee, you will receive notification via e-mail. Interviews will begin in November and end in late January. You may choose to interview at any or all of the hospitals that are participating in the residency. We welcome your spouse or significant other to interview with you.
