The Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences (IGPBS) is the portal for entry into the Ph.D. programs in Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology , Neuroscience, Oral Biology, Pathology and Anatomical Sciences, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Physiology and Biophysics, and Structural Biology, at the University of Buffalo.The IGPBS provides students with a unique opportunity to obtain a broad-based foundation in biomedical and biological sciences while fully exploring the various and diverse cutting-edge research opportunities afforded by the constituent graduate programs prior to committing to a specific research area. The program is designed to meet the individual needs and interest of the students whether they plan to enter careers in academia, industry or government.

OPPORTUNITY

  • Opportunity to study and collaborate with over 100 active research laboratory groups, carrying out ground-breaking research encompassing virtually all aspects of biological and biomedical sciences in the 21st century.
  • Opportunity to explore the various research areas and interact with potential mentors through first year laboratory rotations BEFORE selecting a Ph.D. advisor and program
  • Highly individualized attention and guidance for each student throughout their graduate career
  • Career development workshops and contacts with alumni in industry, academic and government and nontraditional career tracks.

FLEXIBILITY

  • A first year interdisciplinary core curriculum and menu of electives that provide the requisite fundamental scientific background, while allowing flexibility to meet the individual interests of each student

  • Choices of doctoral degree programs based upon your needs and research focus following completion of the first year interdisciplinary curriculum
