| Descriptions of "Special Topics" Courses (PSY 476-490)
This page has descriptions of some of the "Special Topics" courses being offered by the Department of Psychology. Note that several such courses that are offered may not be listed here. Spring 2005 -- PSY 488 -- Vision and Neuroscience We will trace basic anatomy from the eye to deeper areas of the brain, all the while aiming to explain how the different arrangements of brain cells can explain how and why you see what you see. The course will focus on the general anatomy of the systems involved in human vision, as well as information gathered from psychological experiments and measurements of brain activity. You will not need to have a background in biology or neuroscience -- only an interest in perception and the brain, cognitive psychology, or cognitive science. The class will be discussion-based (led mainly by the instructor). Grading will be based on class participation, a few quizzes, a presentation on a topic of your choice, and a short paper.
